Host transfer
-
Hi,
I’ve made a website on wordpress.com, though I cannot use plug ins and other options so I need to set up my own hosting. Is it possible to transfer the domain and content accross to a new hosting or do I have to rebuild the whole website?
Thanks

Hi there,
You can indeed just transfer your content over to your self-hosted WordPress.org site rather than rebuild it. If you’re interested, we offer an upgrade called Guided Transfer (available in the Store section of your blog’s Dashboard) where we take care of everything for you: http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/
Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:
http://wordpress.org/support/
http://codex.wordpress.org/Regarding your domain: the domain registry, ICANN, puts a lock on all domains for their first 60 days after purchase. You cannot transfer them to another registrar during that time period. You can however point them towards another registry using nameservers (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/). And then once the 60 days are up, you’re welcome to transfer the domain away if you so choose (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/).
Let me know if you have any questions!
