Host/WordPress.org confusion.

Hello. I recently purchased a domain name through a domain/host provider. I intended to then use WordPress.org tools to manage the content for this domain name. I thought that I needed a WordPress.com account to do this, and it looks like I do not. I connected my domain name from the other host, to my WordPress.com account, and now I would like to disconnect it without affecting my ownership of that domain name. What do I need to do?

    Hey there!

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you’d prefer to have the site hosted elsewhere as opposed to WordPress.com?

It should be a simple fix to detach your domain from your WordPress.com account. I’ve attached a link from the WordPress.com Support page below, but essentially these are the steps you’d need to take, and you’re looking for where it says “remove connection”.

To detach a domain from your WordPress.com website:

    2. On the side, navigate to Upgrades → Domains (or Hosting → Domains if using WP-Admin).
    3. Click on the domain you want to detach from your website.
    4. At the bottom of the right sidebar, click the button labeled “Detach“.
    5. On the confirmation box, click on the button labeled “Detach“.
    6. A banner will appear, confirming that the domain will be detached from your site in a few minutes.
