Host/Domain/back up issue?
-
I’ve made a static website in WP and now want to link it to my new host/domain. However I can’t seem to get it to all link up? i.e. to use WP within my host (iPages). I think I’ve got myself into a right old pickle. Althought Assume most people must write their pages before they ‘go live’ and host and therefore end up in the same situation where they have already downloaded WP and already have an a/c with them.
I was told by the host I needed to ask you to back up – before I can go back to them and then they will import something.
My domain is called slowdown2gofaster.co.uk / .com .net and my word press is called http://missrebeccajaneyoung.wordpress.com/. CAn you pls help me?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you want to run a website hosted at iPages, you need to ask at WordPress.ORG for help with that. We are here for technical support of blogs hosted at WordPress.COm only.
If you want to export the contents of http://missrebeccajaneyoung.wordpress.com/ and put it on your iPages site, go to the dashboard Tools page, click Export (be sure to include media) and away you go.

Hi Raincoaster… THank you for getting back to me. A couple of things: First off I am a novice to all this so please forgive my ignorance.
1. When you say WP.org are you differentiating with .com? I heard the two were different?
2. I have followed your instructions and it’s saved a RSS feed onto my computer. It then gives instructions of how to IMport into WP. However since I am exporting from WP, it it my host ipages that I want to import it onto? Not WP where I’ve just exported it from. (What’s confusing me is using WP in my host and normally).Any help hugely appreciated. thanks Rebecca

1) Yes, they are different.
2) Presumably you want to import it into your iPages? I have no idea if you have wordpress.org software installed there or not, but you should.

1. This is where i am still confused. I created the static site in WP.com. You are saying that when I go to ipages the WP in there is .org?
2. I installed WP once to create the static pages no problem. Then was sort of ‘forced’ to do it again whilst following instructions from an ipage tutorial. However it just re-directed me to Mojo yet another site. So now I don’t know whether I need to be in ipages or Mojo? or now WP.org? Hmm, may have to find someone to physically show me since need a unifying plan!
3. Thank you again. I have ‘tried’ to email techsupport so hopefully someone will get back to me?

1) your WordPress.com blog is in no way connected to your iPages site. If you want the contents of that blog moved to iPages, you have to move them yourself. Is that what you want to do?
2) I can’t help you with this.
