hosting

Hi! I have this new domain with a host that I use for other websites. I have decided to create a new site on wp, but I don’t see what the advantage is other than you give me one year reg for free. Could you explain further, please?

  • Hi @freeandstrongafter, sorry we didn’t see this earlier! Your host may well let you install your own copy of WordPress on their servers, so you might want to look into that. It’s free software you can run on many hosts. The caveat is you’ll need to keep it updated, and when you have questions you’ll need to rely on community support or hired help. On the plus side, you can install whatever outside themes and plugins you’d like. On the downside, it’s all up to you to keep it up and going on your own and with the resource you can find online.

On our servers, we run the software for you, provide excellent hosting, take care of updates and security, and with paid plans, we provide direct support. Plus we have several nice features built in, like a CDN and spam filtering — all included and configured — which you’d often need to pay for separately with hosting your own copy.

We’re not able to do custom development for you, but we are able to help with many things to help you get your site up and going. Plus you’ve got the WordPress.com Reader, which is excellent for networking and getting to know the community.

I hope this information helps! Let us know if you have more questions.
