Hosting

Hi. I’ve designed a site for a friend using your free platform, and now I want to launch it. She owns the domain name, purchased through Godaddy, but I’m not sure if I’m selecting the correct option to have you host it. I was chasing the Premium option. Am I doing this correctly? I got confused when I looked at the details under the domain name stuff…I’ve never done this before

  • Hi there,

Are you looking to map the domain to your friend’s WordPress.com site or transfer the domain over to WordPress.com?

First, whether you map or transfer your existing domain, you should be able to purchase a WordPress.com plan here.

The biggest factors to consider would be who you want to host your domain, how much your domain host currently costs compared to the domain + plans packages we offer here, and whether or not you want to host your domain and site at the same place.

If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, we’ll manage the domain. You’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here (domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

But, if you keep the domain with your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, your current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll still need to pay them for hosting your domain.
