Hi @johnkarr, it’s more like cloud hosting. Your site won’t be on its own private hardware, but you won’t see the same kinds of issues that you might experience sharing a single physical server with other sites.
Also, WP DNS’s are not faster!
Can you share the source of that test? We’ll pass it along to the right teams. Thanks!

DNS tool I use: https://www.dnsperf.com/
I came from this article: https://www.searchenginejournal.com/wordpress-dot-com-domain-transfers-from-google-domains/493051/

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out with that context.
Looking at https://www.dnsperf.com/ it looks like the providers over taking WordPress.com are https://edg.io/, https://www.sectigo.com/ and https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/ which offer specific DNS/DDOS protection, rather than predominantly a hosting solution like that of Google, GoDaddy and Digital Ocean.
So in regards to that statement above – that would still stand.
Cloudflare looks to be the fastest on that list, and it is possible to use their services with WordPress.com. This guide here: https://wordpress.com/support/cloudflare-cdn/ explains how to get that set up.
I’m hoping this helps and we can totally help with Cloudflare if that’s of interest to you. :)
Looking forward to hearing more!
