hosting

Hello! I opened up a wordpress.com account and then purchased a domain through you guys. I purchased a WordPress template through creative market.com (didn’t know that templates can only be loaded onto .org) so I need to switch over to wordpress.org now. I would like to keep my domain name (hopenicole.com) and my designer told me to do this: Ok good. So you need to purchase a hosting! and you should ask how to retrieve a domain from them and put it on your hosting!
I was going to go with Hostgator but don’t know what to do!
    Thanks!

    Hey there!

Eventually, you can transfer your domain to another domain registrar, but this isn’t possible until 60-days after purchase. These are the ICANN rules of domain registration policy that we have to follow.

Here are the instructions, once this becomes a possibility:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

Until then, you can map your domain from WordPress.com to “point” at your new site.

Here is information about adjusting your domain’s DNS to map it to your new server:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

I was going to go with Hostgator but don’t know what to do!

They will be able to talk you through either process. We can help on our end, and they’ll need to help on their end. One way or the other you can absolutely use hopenicole.com on your new self-hosted site.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!
