hi, I have applied for the .blog domain in the Landrush and just wanted to understand whether this would be hosted on the WordPress if I get it on Nov 21st?

from what I have understood the new .blog domain to be is that, since it is a new type of domain, you will have the chance to get one ahead of others.

so yes it is still hosted by Wp but remember any special features after that you will want for your blog will still need to be purchased….below is a link that explains the process more.

  • Hi there,

If your landrush application has been successful you would have been notified already via email. You’ll also be notified once the domain is registered and active.

If you want to use that domain with a WordPress.com site you’ll need to then point the name servers to us and connect it here via domain mapping, as with any domain bought with another registrar, as you registered it via get.blog, not WordPress.com.

It will only be possible to register .blog domains directly via WordPress.com after 21 November, but your domain should be active before then.

Just throwing out there that a domain is a domain, whether it is .com, .net or .blog. You can host your domain anywhere you choose to do so, which includes mapping it to a WordPressdotcom site.

  • Correct. .blog domains will work exactly the same as any other top-level domain, including how you connect it to WordPress.com. It’s not a different type of domain, only a different domain name.

What is also important to note here is that get.blog is separate from WordPress.com, so buying a domain there works the same as buying your domain from GoDaddy or Namecheap, for example.
