  how many websites can i make and host using your platform?

  There’s no limit on how many websites/blogs you can have with WordPress.com.

  Your answer is correct. However, if one goes nutbar and registers many URLs in close succession there is a built-in spammer prevention that will come into play.

  Another consideration is the fact that many who post here mistakenly assume they can register username accounts and hand out passwords ie. create a network. That can be done only on wordpress.org software.

  And, there are other occasions when those asking this question assume they can purchase an upgrade and have it apply to more than one site.
