Hosting a website

Im having trouble figuring out if wordpress has the capability to build and host a website or is it only for blogging?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Always try a search of the Support documents first. http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=website

You can do just about anything with WordPress, it’s much more than just blogging. you could build anything from simple business websites to full on community sites, etc.
Here’s a recent article showcasing some great WordPress sites that are not blogs: http://www.creativebloq.com/web-design/examples-wordpress-11121165
Depending on your needs you will want to study the difference between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites (WordPress.org,) but in general you can do a lot of great things with it!
-
Those are not WordPress.COM blogs, which work very differently and have limitations that WP.org blogs do not. Please stick to using WP.com blogs as examples to WP.com questions.
-
Since the original question didn’t actually specify WordPress.com it sounded like a question about what can be done with WordPress in general.
As I mentioned, some research is needed on the difference. If someone is brand new to WordPress I think it’s valuable to know what can be done beyond blogging so they can make an informed choice about which platform to use. It’s great that there are so many possibilities!

ALL questions here relate to WordPress.com blogs. Adding in answers relating to .org capabilities only confuses people.

Thank you! I am starting a site for my real estate business and i need to be able insert framed links for the MLS search
-
You mean iframes? Then you need a WordPress.org blog and to use their forums for support.
-
-
Usually when you are inserting content from another site (such as MLS data) you will be provided with a code to paste that inserts an iFrame or some Javascript into your site.
Sites hosted on WordPress.com don’t usually allow for that so you may want to look into self hosted WordPress sites with WordPress.org that will give you these options.
Here is a quick comparison chart to give you an idea of the difference:

So if i need to install framed links provided to me by my MLS board for the search function, i would most likely need to go with WordPress.org?
-
It sounds like that might be the case. I’d encourage you to do some searching for WordPress based real estate solutions. You will find several services, plug-ins and premium themes (for use with WordPress.org) built specifically to integrate with MLS listings.

This is the MLS search framed link provided by my local MLS board. So with this embedded or inserted into my sight, visitors would be able to search houston area homes for sale directly from my sight

-
Well, you can LINK to that. But you can’t embed it on your WP.com blog. If that suits you, great. If not, creativembers is right and you’d need a WordPress.org install on paid hosting. Deductable paid hosting!
-
Im just worried about using wordpress.org because the comparison chart says “get your hands dirty” and build it yourself for wordpress.org and i dont have much experience doing this
-
Well, it’s not THAT hard to do, you just click to install it, etc. But you are responsible for all technical upgrades, etc. The book WordPress for Dummies is pretty good.
