Hosting Account Deactivated- Can't access content

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi ,

I had a site called inliminality.com. I bought the domain from godaddy (valid until September 2016), and hosted it through bluehost.

Not wanting to pay for hosting services anymore, I didn’t renew my bluehost subscription and they deactivated my bluehost account.

Now, I wanted to change my site from inliminality.com to a free version inliminality.wordpress.com. However, upon visiting my wordpress account, I get a notification from WP that it cannot retrieve the content or as a matter of fact any information regarding my site.

Please help me retrieve access to my admin panel and change my site address to inliminality.wordpress.com.

    Best Regards,

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

You’ll need to get in touch with Bluehost support directly for help accessing that site’s content. Since the site was hosted at Bluehost, not WordPress.com, all of the content was saved at Bluehost rather than here at WordPress.com.

Once you have access to that content, you can move your site from the self-hosted WordPress site at Bluehost to a WordPress.com site using our guide for Moving from a Self-Hosted WordPress to WordPress.com.

Hi Rachel, thank you for your response.

After contacting Bluehost, here is the answer I got:

Your account was expired and then cancelled after 10 days. We do not keep back up for deleted account so there is no back up for your account. If you have any back up files in local system then you can upload it from your end or else recreate the site.

Any chance I can recover any of the data with you guys? At the least my theme settings?

I appreciate your help, I had no idea breaking up with Bluehost would make me lose all my work…

    Ben

None at all since you were not hosted here

Try search engines and see if they still have some of your site indexed also try the Way Back Machine at the Internet Archives .ORG

Thanks auxclass, I guess I have to start all over again.

When trying to create inliminality.wordpress.com, I get a message saying this site is reserved. Is it reserved for me knowing that I owned the site inliminality.com? If so, I have now deactivated the site which I no longer have access to. How long do I need to wait until inliminality.wordpress.com is available?

    Hi Ben,

The site address inliminality.wordpress.com is reserved for the WordPress.com account with the matching username inliminality. If you also own that username you can set up a site with that address (by logging in to that account), but otherwise you’ll need to choose a new, unique address for your WordPress.com site.
