Hosting Configuration caveats…
-
I am curious about the Hosting Configuration feature, specifically if there are any side effects to enabling it. For example, I once enabled plug-ins only to discover that doing so disabled several important features. Anything like that happen when I enable Hosting Configuration?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, I think you might be referring to another site that isn’t hosted here, since I’ve not heard of that setting on our services.
Generally speaking, as long as you have backups and know how to restore them you should be able to try something out, but you might also check in with your host, or as in the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ to see what the self-hosted community thinks.

It must be a fairly new feature. At least I have never noticed it before.
It is accessible from the WordPress.com dashboard.
Select “Manage” then “Hosting Configuration”.

Ah, I see what you mean. Nothing will change on your site after activating it.
It’s just there if you prefer to manually manage your database, change some configuration, or need SFTP access. Here you can read more:

As @supernovia mentioned above, you can always go back to the last backup if you make a mistake.

Oh I should add too, with a Business Plan you have access to chat-based support, so you’re welcome to send questions there:
https://wordpress.com/help/contactWe typically assist with free sites here in the forums. I should have searched for that feature though. Sorry about that!
