Hosting Dipity.com Widgets???
-
Hey There!
I’m trying to host a rather extensive Timeline that I’ve set up using Dipity.com on my WordPress blog.
Dipity prepares a great HTML script for me to be able to embed “snapshots” of my timeline on outside sites, but the code doesn’t seem to workd on my WordPress site.
I’ve tried embedding the HTML code on a Blogger.com page and it worked NO PROBLEM.
I’m working on a Masters Thesis, so it is IMPERATIVE that my timeline appear on my wordpress site. Otherwise, visitors to my site will feel like they’re walking through an art exhibition, listening to a gallery tour, but not seeing any of the paintings.
You get me?
Any help regarding this issue would be majorly MAJORLY appreciated!!!
If WordPress can’t host the Dipity widget I’ll have to move my site to another publishing platform and I really REALLY don’t want to have to do that.
HELP!!!!
Thanks (an advance) for your advice and/or efforts.
Cheers,

We also need to see the code. We need BOTH of those things. Paste the code here between backticks, those little marks on the same key as the ~ so Backtick, all the code, Backtick

Hey there, i noticed there was no response from this user. I’ll provide the link and embed code from my own personal timeline for your review.
Let me know if you have any other questions about the embed code.

@derekdukes, iframes are not allowed here at wordpress.COM due to security concerns: http://support.wordpress.com/code/ .
Your blog is self-hosted and you do not have this restriction. See this for the differences between blogs hosted here and self-hosted wordpress blogs: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

It would be nice to find a way to embed dipity objects as well as vuvox objects. I am noticing all the embeds that I was hoping to use are not supported.
Is there a way we can get WordPress and these aps to play nice?

Any widgets from outside sources have to actually have the code here in the backend rather than having it inserted by the blogger, which means staff actually has to work with the widget people to get the code sanitized and to get any security issues taken care of (there is a lot of really poorly written code out there – even from “reliable” sources. Then they have to go through each theme and modify them to accept the code, and put stuff into the CSS for each theme to take care of formatting and sizing issues. It isn’t a simple task.
It also depends on the nature of the widget and how many people are likely to use it.
Send your request into staff directly so they can log it into the features request list.
