Hosting – DNS – WordPress – Redirecting – I am completely lost

I used to have my site (example.com) hosted by Arvixe, with the domain redirected to my WordPress blog. This week, I renewed my domain but decided to stop having them host it because WordPress was working out well for me (you give enough space for me to save my pictures).
I was told (by Arvixe’s customer service) that I could purchase the domain through them, go to a service like FreeDNS for my DNS needs and work that in conjunction with WordPress.
I’ve tried to follow so many different sets of instructions now (from FreeDNS and WordPress), purchased WordPress’s domain mapping service that my site now only displays at example.wordpress.com, and my regular domain points to some “Shared domain” page to FreeDNS. Even if I switch my main domain option in WordPress to example.com and clear my cache, it still redirects to the “Shared domain” page for the DNS service.
Why? What am I doing wrong? I am completely LOST! Please help. -
Hi there, I’m sorry to hear about the frustration you experienced with your domain! It can take some time (usually 48-72 hours) for changes to your domain settings to take full effect. In the meantime, your domain may not work as expected.
I just checked your domain (the one you just mapped to WordPress.com). The settings are correct, and it is working for me — it points to your WordPress.com blog.
If it still isn’t working for you, please give it another day or so for the changes to finish taking effect everywhere. You may also want to clear your web browser’s cache and cookies if the problems persist.
Once your domain directs you to your WordPress.com blog as expected, you can also set it to be the primary domain for your blog. You can do this under Store > Domains in your blog.
