Hosting & Installing Custom Themes

First timer here, so please forgive the novice question…
What if my domain is registered with GoDaddy, but I’m hosting with IX Web Hosting, where do I upload my custom theme that I just purchased?
I’ve already create a Map Domain using WP, so my domain name is the primary name and I’ve already update the DNS details in GoDaddy to point to WP (hope I got that right).
When I go to my FTP server on IX Web Hosting, I don’t see a “public_html” directory, nor do I see a “wp” directory. So, how do I install my custom theme.
This is very confusing for a first timer :-)
Thanks in advance,

Hi Jojo. Since you have a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog, please ask your question at http://wordpress.org/support
You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum and our answers will not apply to your situation (for instance here, we cannot install our own themes). Thanks and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

Morning @airodyssey – I think it gets a bit more confusing – they seem to be doing both hosting on IX and doing domain mapping to WordPress.COM. That might make it a bit tough to get into the right system.
They might want to actually point things to IX and undo their Domain Mapping here – just my guess.

I don’t think they have their WordPress.ORG software installed on IX either – they might want to do some serious reading over at .ORG

So, if I understand correctly, my Hosting company must have WP support or server settings in order to run a WP site?
Sorry for the novice questions…
Thanks again :-)

It’s a tricky thing with that. Your host will basically need to either have the right PHP module installed to allow files to be installed via PHP (if installing via the Dashboard), or they’ll need to allow full FTP access (if manually installing themes).
If you’re running into issues with both methods, I strong recommend finding a different hosting provider. We have a few recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/
The good folks at http://wordpress.org/support/ will be able to give you more info on what’s required.
