Hey. I’m sure there are many subject about this, but i cannot find the help needed.

I want to host my WP-blog on another server.. And I have downloaded wordpress 3.03, and I have typed the right mySQL infomation in the wp-config.php file.
Then I upload it all, and then it says:
“It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”

So I install, but what I really install is a NEW blog. But I already has a WP-blog. What do I do wrong. How does I setup my old WP-blog?

    /Peter

Peter – I fear you (or I) are a little confused.

You have a new host for your wordpress blog. You already have your account here at wp.com.

You will need to install the software on your new host (by doing the install – “It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”) and then export from wp.com and import to your new hosted blog.

Exporting from your current wp.com blog we (the admins, not the populous!) can help with. As soon as you’re trying to import to your new hosted blog you’ll need to be asking the questions over at http://www.wordpress.org/support as we can’t then help you. As you probably know, the forums here at wp.com are only for wp.com hosted blogs.

Oh, that sucks.. So what you say, is that my blog “www.sloane.wordpress.com” cannot be transfered to my new host?

    It’s just because I would like my WP-blog-URL: http://www.sloane.dk..

..but the only way I can do that, is to make a NEW blog, and then export and import all the comments and post from my old blog (sloane.wordpress.com)??

Yes, it can be transferred, but you need to install the application first.

THEN do the export from wp.com to your host.

It’s because of the MySQL database that runs the blogs. You need to get the information out of wp.com by exporting and then importing to your host.

You could investigate “meta redirect” (Google it) for the .dk which would redirect to your wp.com blog but that’s a waste of web space.

Okay, so now i have made the blog.

    http://www.sloane.1go.dk

What should I do for getting all my data from http://www.sloane.wordpress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have now fixed it myself.. :D
    see: http://www.sloane.1go.dk

Um, Dashboard -> Manage -> Export to save the exported file.

You’ll have to find an XML importer plugin to use on your self hosted blog.

Yeah I know, but thanks :)

I just thought you could use my old blog.. But, maybee I’m gonna make a new blog :)

It’s like two different books with the same title. Granted, teh words are the same and all that but they are still two different physical books.

Yes, I understand that know. But I’m not good in php-editing, so I still have my wordpress-blog..

I just made html-file that send my visitors from sloane.1go.dk to sloane.wordpress.com :)

    :o)

But for the most part you don’t need to do the HTML and PHP editing.

If you want help, there’s loads of tutorials in the wordpress codex, or if you really want to you can contact me direct through my main blog
