Hosting on Bluehost a domain that I deleted from wordpress.com

  I purchased a domain on wordpress.com but realized I wanted to host it on bluehost.com, so I deleted the domain from wordpress.com thinking I could repurchase it through bluehost.com and use wordpress.org to build a website through bluehost. Now I have hosting on bluehost.com, but when I try to access my site, it says I don’t have domain mapping, and the domain is no longer directed towards bluehost servers. But the domain is deleted from my wordpress.com account. So I’m hosting a domain I no longer have access to, what do I do?

  Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
