  Would it be possible for me to cancel my hosting with WordPress but still be able to keep and tranfer my domain? If yes, what is the procedure?

  If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  If you are looking to export your content, you can do that with the Tools > Export option in your admin menu, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#export-your-content-to-another-blog-or-platform.

  If you want to redirect your domain to a new domain, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#setting-up-a-redirect-to-your-new-domain and http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/.

  Or simply do it all yourself as described here in step by step fashion > Setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org install However, that doesn’t answer the question in the OP. I already did that the first time I posted.
