Hosting space

  This may sound dumb, but I would like to know. With WordPress.com. Does the person have to buy hosting space or just a domain name?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  All WordPress.com blogs are free hosted right here. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

  See here is you already own a domain and want to map to that domain from your .wordpress.com blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

  Ok so There are two options. Buy a Domain name and link, or just provide a name when you set up your WP.com account?

  Option 1 – If you do not own a domain you can purchase a domain name through WordPress.com as part of the domain mapping upgrade

  Option 2 – If you already own a domain you can purchase a domain name through WordPress.com for a lesser fee. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  There are lots more options than that, but let’s simplify this.

  Unless you want a custom domain like whatever.com, you do not need a custom domain upgrade and domain mapping upgrade. You can get a whatever.wordpress.com URL for free. You’ve already got one: http://conquersite.wordpress.com/

  You don’t pay for hosting at all.

  This is a little confusing. They already have a domain name, it’s a .ca domain name.

  Then what you need is http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ to connect the whatever.ca domain to the whatever.wordpress.com site.
