Hosting unlinked rar files possible?

My blog is about dealing with flawed consumer electronics. Through it and some forums people have contacted me to develop workarounds for some of the annoyances mentioned on it. Now I need someone with a similar device to test out some files I’ve put into a rar file of 800 KB which exceeds attachment size on the forum we’re both using. Having almost 3 GB of free space left on my wordpress account, I planned to host the file there instead of rapidshare. So I renamed it to pdf, attached it to an article not published yet (so it popped up in my media library) and tried the link ‘myblogaddress/files/myrar.pdf. This does not work. Is there a way to do this? Since the file is legal and only people knowing the complete url would be able to download it (so there will be no extra traffic) hosting this kinda file should be ok with wordpress, right?

It appears that you are missing part of the link (a date):
    http://MY_BLOG_NAME/files/2009/03/MY_FILE_NAME.pdf
dashboard > edit any post (or any page) > add an image > media library > choose your PDF > be sure “file url” is selected > copy that URL

D’oh, I assumed, I could drop the date since I could rename the URL like I wanted. Thanks for clearing that up, I works just fine.
