Hosting vs design issue
-
Please help. I’m afraid I’ve made a mistake. In the past I was able to edit the css of the my web template directly, but I just had a client purchase hosting through WordPress & I am unable to edit/design their site the way I need to.
I need to be able to edit the css directly, not just cut & paste random css (which I am finding very tedious & changes do not get saved – or revert on a whim).
Please help! Where can I access the css directly?
Thanks!!
Melissa

You can use custom CSS if your client has a Premium or Business plan:

Using ‘My Sites → Customize → CSS’ is very cumbersome and I am finding that my changes (even after I press “Save”) will revert on a whim. This is not a good option for me.
I need to be able to edit my templates files.
Does this make sense?

I have a premium plan. My client paid for it. I would have gone another hosting route had I known that I would not have full access to the files.

WordPress.com does not give you FTP server access or full editing access for template files. In order to have the level of control you want, I think your client is going to need to move to self-hosted WordPress with a different host.
If they purchased a WordPress.com plan within the past 30 days, they can request a refund:

Ok, so how do I change font size for ‘paragraph’ within my template? I have searched the forum but not able to find my answer.
-
This should affect the paragraphs on your homepage:
.page-template-front-page .site-main > .hentry:first-of-type .entry-content {font-size: 1rem !important; }
For other paragraphs, I’d probably try
.entry-content p {font-size 1rem !important;}(The !important isn’t always necessary or a best practice, but sometimes it’s helpful if you just can’t find the other bit of CSS that is overriding your settings.)

It looks as though one technique recommended by WordPress is to use a web inspector in coordination with the CSS editor – some useful information and videos on this page.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/how-to-find-your-themes-css/
I am surprised not to find access to the theme CSS as a whole, but I have not read all the documentation.

You will want to post your future CSS questions in the CSS customization forums for some super help. In addition to members, the staff are frequent responders and VERY familiar with the themes. Really high quality and specific help there.

The odd thing is, the only answers in the form that are specific to what I need to do with my site, are unanswered. I feel a little helpless being at the mercy of an “ask and maybe you’ll get an answer” forum.

The original post shows what appears to be a premium or business site on WordPress.com. and I think those are the onky ones that can do the CSS customization. That forum is very responsive with excellent help. If you look at it
Premium and Business users can use email and/or chat to receive help.
See this document:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/css-support-in-live-chat/And the CSS section of the forum itself shows good support and follow through.

Specifically, I need the bottom menu widget of my site to display in a centered horizontal format with simple ‘|’ in between. Next, I need to display a simple line of text underneath this bottom horizontal menu.
Also, I need my top nav menu to be on one line

Please start a new post with this specific request in the CSS customization forum.. Go to this page – https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization – you should see an “add new” to add a question there.
