how do you disable the html from turning into links and pics and stuff, just html codes?

You need to convert the symbols into the html for them; try this page:

(You may need to make corrections when you paste the result – for instance, make sure the quotes are straight, not curly.)
If it’s for your sidebar, you’ll probably need a scrollbox as well – see here:
