Hover Box with full web http address when hovering

Is anyone else having this issue while in editing mode? It’s making it very VERY difficult to edit lists of links when I can’t actually see the link I want to edit because the box keeps coming up.
Is there a way to disable this? If not how do I report it as a bug that’s incredibly problematic when it comes to editing.

Hi there. Are you referring to the link that now appears when one clicks on the anchor text in the editor? I don’t think there’s any way to disable that.
I’ll tag this thread for staff so they can take note of your feedback, though.

I am.
However, there is no clicking involved. If you hover near the link, if you move your cursor down or get anywhere near it, that link box shows up.
It makes it incredibly difficult to see when you’re editing text within a link.

Are you using the classic or the new editor? In the classic it only appears when I click the anchor text, so if you use the new editor it might be a bug with that one.
Let us know your browser as well, please (name and version), in case this could be a browser-specific issue.

It’s happening in both, less often in the classic. WordPress forces me into the new editor a lot more often than I would like.
I’m on Chrome, the most updated version. Windows: Version 45.0.2454.85 m
I’ve also seen it on Mac, but I don’t have access to that version at the moment.

That’s strange. I tested this in both editors, in Firefox and Chrome, and in all cases the pop-up/tooltip only appears when I click the anchor text.

That’s it. The hovering seems to only appear sporadically so that could be a chrome issue.

Try clearing your browser cache and disabling any add-ons. Otherwise, we’ll wait to see what staff says.

That should only pop up when you click on a link to edit it. You mentioned you have this trouble regardless of whether you’re using the classic or new editor, right? Let us know whether this is appearing in Chrome as well, and please also let us know what kind of device you’re using to hover over links (touchpad, mouse, etc.). Thanks!

:D It’s probably because I’ve had my share of trackpack issues over the years. This sounds like one that is interpreting a hover as a click. We’ll see :)

It is not a track pad, so you can cross that out. But it is probably a click as it appears any time I am on a line that is completely a link whether I am in the link or not.
I’ve cleared caches and it’s the same thing. Sounds like it’s just the new MO of the editing system. I don’t like it, but that doesn’t seem to matter.

The primary problem is that it appears to be a hover, and that’s why I described it as such, when your entire list is text links. No matter how you move between lines or try to edit that box shows up making it harder to see other text and lines.
I was forced to edit in HTML to make it easier to read all of the text.

I think I get what you’re saying. Your last remark made me check again and I see that even when you move the cursor using the arrow keys the pop-up still appears. I can see how that will be a problem if the entire line is a link.
Perhaps it would be more accurate to say this behavior is rather connected to the cursor location than to a mouse click?

That makes sense, I think I just noticed it first clicking anywhere on the line and then I tried to circumvent it by moving the cursor.

I can confirm that if you’re editing a link the URL will appear, and this does include placing the cursor in the middle of the link.
You mentioned hovering though. When you hover over or near a link, does the cursor start blinking within the link as though it’s been placed there?
