Hover Photo Credit

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to have hover text added to the photos on my front page (photographer photo credit). Is there a way to do that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

sadly there is not a way to do that. While the title attribute (when added to an image) will be displayed as a tooltip on hover, this only works for single images that you have added to your pages or posts with the “Add Media” button.

However, it’s not possible to display the title attribute for Featured Images, which is the images you see on the home page.

Possible workarounds are to put a credit (in text) on the sub pages that are connected to each of the front page areas. This will not display a credit on the front page however. For that the only workaround I can think of is to use a graphics program to add a credit byline to the image itself.

There would not be a way to create what you are seeking with CSS however.

Sorry I was not able to help you directly, but I hope this points you in the right direction.

@jerrysarcastic- it was my understanding from previous Staff replies in the forums that IPTC/XMP information added to images is not preserved on uploading.

  • Hi Jennifer. :)

To clarify I mean place the text in the image itself, like you would a watermark. We do display some metadata information (within the image carousel) as it relates to shutter speed, aperture, focal length, etc., but this is not the same as a title attribute (and associated tooltip on hover) which the OP was referring to.

    Ah. :)

In that case, let me just drop this here: https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/watermarks/

(And if someone could change the background color on the drop down category and archive widgets on The Daily Post so it is readable (currently white text on white background), that’d be perfect.

This seems to be already fixed when I check now:

    Are you seeing something different?

    @jeremeylduvall

It’s the dropdown category and archive widgets background (screenshot) at the bottom of the page. :) Thanks for looking!

Sorry for misunderstanding! Weird – I don’t see white on white on my side in either Chrome or Firefox:

Not sure why you’re seeing something different on your side. Still digging.

  • It looks like those dropdowns weren’t properly tested on Windows. They look great on a Mac (any browser), but on Windows they don’t.

On Windows, they inherit the text color of the select box text (white) and the standard background color (dropdowns are very hard to style), but on Mac, they take their own text color and a colored background.

I’d qualify this as a bug in the theme.

    Right!

Thanks so much @senff! It looks like that is indeed the issue. Will report this and get it fixed up.
