How about giving the $17 a year advert a shelf life?
-
Like, every time I view my stats page, I’d like not to be reminded that I can purchase my domain name. Quite happy with the way things are. Highlighted in yellow, it distracts, it annoys, it advertises in a space that I like to think of as my personal commercial-free zone, know what I’m saying? So, a one month shelf life – if I haven’t opted for it, remove it. Maybe bring it back in a year’s time & let me think about it again, & after a month, again, remove it, if I ain’t clicked it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have my own domain so what I see is
Tip: Want to stand out from the crowd? Buy a premium theme →It’s doesn’t bother me. I’ve programmed myself to ignore it and don’t actually “see” it any more.

Quick fix – make a second identity then add them as Editor to your blog – then you won’t see any ad at all. See there is almost always a workaround here. :)
My ID is an editor on another site and I don’t see the Ad there.

You know, it’s not the physicality of the ad that bothers me so much (I’m quite capable of ‘not seeing’ it too) as the reminder that after all is said & done, this wonderfully free service, this fantastic model WordPress have set up, is still a commercial operation and that at the end of the day, they’d like it more if I paid ’em some money. Now, ultimately it’s their domain, & they have every right to throw the odd ad my way every now and then: every now and then is fine, just not in perpetuity, please. I mean why offer such a great ‘free’ service if you’re gonna then constantly remind your users that you’d like to charge them? A good portion of the millions of bloggers here surely only do it because it’s free. Yeah, storm-in-a-teacup kind of complaint I know. Jus’ sayin’.

its funny that’s the very reason I don’t mind seeing the adverts…

@ alunbumstead I feel the same way. Since getting a no-ads upgrade, the number of these ads has increased… I also dislike the constant reminders. And unlike timethief (hi there!) I can’t program myself to not see it!
