How Add Cropped Imgae To Front Page Posts List?

    Hello

I have a free blog with a free theme.

I would like to include an image for each post in the front page latest posts list. Ideally I would like the image to be full width and cropped to approx the middle third of height. Like they appear in Settings>Publish>Blog Posts.

Currently I use the Kubrick theme. I would be happy to keep this if I can add the images to the front page latest posts list with it. If not I would look at using another free theme (hopefully one that allows me to keep my banner pic).

Can I get a front page latest posts with cropped images list using free versions?

    Many Thanks
    Tales

Currently I use the Kubrick theme on a free wordpress blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

By “Settings>Publish>Blog Posts” I believe you mean in the New Dash?

If you want to stay with Kubrick, the simplest solution would be to upload and add an image at the beginning of each post. The image will also repeat in the single Post view. Keep your images small to begin with, no need for wider than 500 pixels for Kubrick.

The image won’t be cropped as they appear in the New Dash unless you do the cropping before uploading and inserting it in the Post.

As far as looking for a new theme, there are themes that use featured images on the front page. Have a look at the theme showcase. https://theme.wordpress.com/

    Yes I do.

Thanks very much for answering. I prefer to not have to have an image (however cropped) at the top of each post. So this solution not for me.

    Thanks

Many of the themes that use Featured images use them again in the post as a header image or somesuch, so if you want to try another theme on for size, your best bet is to view your content in single post view as well when in the Customizer.

@talesfromthesouthbank, Cubic is the only theme I’m aware of that allows you to choose whether the featured image is shown on single post pages or not (under Theme in the Customizer, last option), but it is a totally differently designed theme and may not be what you are looking for. There are a few that do not show the featured image on the single post pages, but alas there isn’t a way to filter for that.

If you had the Custom Design upgrade, it is typically pretty easy to use CSS to hide a featured image on single post pages.

Yes looking through the themes is a very time consuming process. I did give up. But will take a look at Cubic.

At least I now understand my options even if I didn’t get the simple solution you hope for. Thanks a lot for the replies. Very helpful.

@tsp – yes, please. With the increasing number of lovely WPcom themes, it becomes even more important to be able to drill down the native features that each theme includes. :)

Yes, @jj, hoping for more ways to sort themes when they are done with the new Theme Showcase. I’ll be making requests. :)
