How are Growing & Top Blogs rated?

  • Unknown's avatar

I noticed that one day a blog will be in the top 5 and the next day it is completely gone.
Is there any way to make it a weekly or even monthy rating by hits/visits so blog owners have a way to build a following?

I have been as high as 15 in growing blogs and the next day I am not even in the Top 100.

    Thanks!

Once you have made it into these “top” rankings it’s very difficult to stay there. The inner workings of the rankings are not made known to us because if they were we would have bloggers “gaming the system”. You will also find that there are threads in the forum searchbox on this issue that you may wish to consult https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=top+blogs

Also: once you’ve made these top rankings with something that’s against the Terms of Service, it’s really likely you’ll get reported. That’s why some of them vanish forever. I’ve reported several top posts that had full frontal nudity, and they were set as Mature, which means they won’t reappear on any of those lists until that content is deleted.

Also: I was in the Top 100 every day for at least six months, but I got downgraded for some reason and have only made it once in the past six months, although my hits now are normally higher than they were back then.

    Weird.

Yeah, yesterday an Adult Blog was in the top 5.
Today it’s replaced with Curt Schilling.
I’d much rather see porn than that jerk! :)

You’ll not see porn for very long in the Top Blogs; they get hundreds of hits, and surely one of them will report it. You can subscribe to the Porn tag, if you want to see porn , though. It’s not disallowed, it’s just that the powers that be don’t want it easily available to children, so they don’t allow it in the Top Posts, etc.

There’s also a lot of blogs that are on the edge. That’s a staff call.

I dont understand, I was the top fastest growing blog all day then I just vanished without a trace. I am thinking its cause of a post I made but there was no nudity at all. it was just a pic from the net with a story. if I was removed cause of that (that would be sad) does that mean I would be banned from that list forever?

No one is banned for ever. So there was nothing mature or adult about it? Then maybe your blog just got off the list on its own. There’s a way of getting there and staying there but it’s weird and no one knows exactly.
