How are you supposed to edit CSS if you can’t see the original?

Hi, I have limited experience with CSS, but have built a webpage before using it.

I just upgraded to custom CSS and don’t understand how you are supposed to edit if you just have a blank box?
The way I understand it, you need to know the html tags and such so that CSS rules can be applied.

Why doesn’t WordPress just put the original CSS and let you make tweaks?

    I can’t figure this out!

Help from someone would be most appreciated.

    Best,

    Matt

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You should have an option to ‘View Original Stylesheet’.

But you’ll probably also want to use something like the Firebug plugin for Firefox to identify all the elements in the code.

When you make your changes, the easiest thing to do is only put the edited bits of code in the box and check ‘Add to Existing Stylesheet’ rather than starting from scratch.

    Thanks rosclarke.

    You are right.
There is a link there to see the original style sheet?

So then we are supposed to research it all so that we can know the names of all the div tags and other rules?
This is not intuitive. I would prefer to simply have everything there so that I can know what it is that I am changing the color of for example instead of having to investigate.
    Why make it so difficult?

I wish I could get my money back.

Well, you could have tried all this before you paid your money. The Edit CSS function is available to everyone – using the Preview feature. You just can’t save your changes to your actual blog without the paid upgrade.

And yes, you have to do the research. Get Firebug or something similar. It makes it very easy.

    What a pain.
I wish they would have clarified that in the section where it gives you the option to buy.

You really helped me clear this up though, thanks so much.

    Peace

Looks like rosclarke already talked you into giving Firebug a go. You might glance at:

… in case there’s a useful feature you missed.
