How can I access plugins?
-
Hey there,
I am trying to connect with Triberr from my http://www.straightondetour.com account? From all the research I have done I have concluded I need access to ‘Plugins’ . Great :) . However it looks as though I do not have access to them as I need to be self-hosted?? I thought i was. Can you help me access plugins?Any information you could provide would be really helpful.
Thank you.
Prue and Becky.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs as you mentioned. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:
If this plugin is a necessity for you, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if its right for you:

Hey there,
Your last response was fantastic and really helped clarify a few things. We have decided to make the transfer in the near future to best suit our blog needs. Could you provide us, or point us in the right direction of a set of instructions and step by step guide as to how to get around the wordpress.org dashboard, if there even is a dashboard?! I am just nervous that the new platform will be very different and I won’t be able to navigate the site as I do my wordpress.com site.
Thank you kindly,
Prue

Hi Prue,
While the Dashboard at WordPress.org may look similar to WordPress.com, it may take a little getting used to once you move over. It will depend on the plugins you decide to apply. But, we do offer tools for helping to make your WordPress.org experience as awesome as WordPress.com. Jetpack supercharges your website with features like easy video embedding, stats, and Twitter and Facebook sharing tools. VaultPress provides realtime, continuous backup and scans your website for security and performance. More information on both can be found at these links:

As for getting used to the WordPress.org Dashboard, I’d look into their support page:
