How can I access the Screen Options since they are obscured by "comment" and gra
-
On the dashboard, I cannot access Screen Options because the “comment” and gravatar are sitting on top of it–I have 2 blogs, both Comet theme–and one works fine, the other not.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Which one does not work? Please confirm the URL.
Will you provide a screenshot for Staff please? I’ll tag this thread for their attention. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide screenshots you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

I appreciate your help very much. The problematic one is http://moonoverspumoni.wordpress.com–I’m unable to provide a screenshot, so I’ll describe it best I can:
At top is Black bar: “my sites”, Reader on left top; on the right side is my gravatar (with dropdown menu) and username and the comments icon. BENEATH that is the Screen Options and Help. I can see it–HOWEVER, I cannot click on it because the Gravatar with dropdown menu OVERLAPS the Screen Options. When I try to put my cursor on Screen Options to click it–it activates the gravatar dropdown instead. It’s impossible. Since I use the same Comet theme on my other blog–and do not have this issue there–I’m baffled as to what the problem is. If one doesn’t work, the other shouldn’t either, right?
Hope this assists you in helping me–thanks again.

Hi there,
I just took a look at your dashboard and I wasn’t able to see the issue which you described. I was able to open the screen options just fine without activating the Gravatar menu.
Is it possible that your browser is zoomed in slightly? Also, are you using the same browser to access both of your accounts? I noticed that you only have a single blog associated with this username, is the other blog you mentioned in a different username perhaps?

Hello–
I’m using the same browser, same theme–everything’s the SAME on BOTH blogs (the other one is nohallmarkmovie.wordpress.com–user, Morrow)–and no zooming.
Seems like it could be a glitch somewhere else, as the issue should exist on both blogs–with all being equal, no?
I appreciate your time and attention–as always, WP is the only way to go.

Hello again, Amighty–
I just tried going to the problematic blog (Moon Over Spumoni) on Internet Explorer–and did NOT find the same issue with accessing Screen Options. That’s fine–However, it doesn’t answer the question of why one blog works and one doesn’t (same theme, everything) on Mozilla Firefox. I can’t really see having to go back and forth between browsers to use each blog; and I never use Internet Explorer….
If you have any further thoughts, I’m listening. Thanks again, muchly.

Hi Paislee,
I’ve been testing this quite a lot today and the only thing I can think of is that I noticed our system is reporting that you wrote in to us using a very old version of Firefox. Is that the case? If so, that might be what is going awry. It may just be malfunctioning a bit on account of the age.
If you can try updating it and giving it a try again, that may solve the issue.

Yes–my PC tech advised me NOT to upgrade the Firefox browser due to past issues I’d had (and the fact I’m using a prehistoric PC). I don’t mean to be argumentative, as I’m not very savvy–but I’m still stuck on the point that this issue I’m having does not occur on both my WP blogs. Everything from theme choice to browser is equal on both–so I’m leery of risking greater global issues by upgrading Firefox, just to get one lone blog to show me my Screen Options. Do you see what I’m saying–isn’t it logical that the problem should be reflected on both blogs, not just one?
I don’t want to wear y’all out, truly–I can live without the Screen Options menu; or maybe use a different theme, or hey–I can start a new blog. I just wish it made sense to me, how 2 nearly identical blogs don’t have identical problems…
And while I have your attention: in the “old days”, I could position my images anywhere on a post–above text, middle of text, bottom of text. Now they will ONLY post at the top of post–got any answers about that??
Thanks always to a most generous Support Team. Happy holidays.

Hiya,
I completely understand your puzzlement, but we only support browser versions that are the current-most version and the most recent two versions. This is because older versions of browsers have code which cause unusual things to happen, like this exact thing. The same code should have the same results but instead different things happen. Firefox just released version 34 and like I mentioned you appear to be on version 12.
It does appear to be an issue with Firefox, since when you open other browsers those work normally. Additionally, when I go in with a modern version of Firefox, that also works normally.
I understand that you cannot update your version of Firefox given your computer’s age, but we also cannot make our systems backwards compatible with such an old browser, as doing so will cause things to break in modern browsers. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincere Thanks for your time and attention–
Could you possibly address my last question, regarding posting images within post–why I can only have them at the top of the post, and not middle of text, or below text? Is this issue also related to old browser versions?
Thank you again.

I’m so sorry, I completely forgot about that last bit of your most recent message. I apologize!
I did a couple of tests specifically with your account (the most recent of which I left as a draft in your blog) and thus far I haven’t been able to replicate troubles on any browser. Are you able to insert the image in the middle or bottom of the page using any other browser?

Everything’s good now–many thanks for all your time and attention. I appreciate your explanations, and guess what? I was recently given a gently-used laptop with Windows 7–wow, what a difference it makes to have updated technology. So, I see now that all my issues were related to outdated “stuff”–thank you for your patience and professionalism. Wishing you a blessed holiday season and excellent New Year.

That’s great! So glad you can do everything again. And how nice to get a new (to you) laptop. :)
I’ll pass along your thanks to Ash. Happy holidays to you too!
