How can I add an embedded form from Mail Chimp to my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to embed a form from Mail Chimp to my wordpress blog using the Suits theme. I just did a webinar from Michael Hyatt showing how easy it is on wordpress. Now when I walk through the steps and get an embed code from Mail Chimp and put it in a text widget on my site, it does not work properly. I know I just must be doing something wrong. Please help!

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Most likely the code needed to embed a Mail Chimp form would not be possible on WordPress.com. You would only be able to do this on the self-hosted, WordPress.org.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

However, you can create a sign up page on MailChimp directly and link to it from your WordPress.com site. Here’s a link for further instructions:

    http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-to-add-a-mailchimp-signup-form-to-your-wordpress-blog

Nevertheless, please provide me the code and I can see if it’s possible on WordPress.com.

Hey Grace, thank you for the assistance. I did see the way to add a link, I was just trying to to send people away from my site. I may have to see about switching over to wordpress.org.

The code they gave me is this:

/* Add your own MailChimp form style overrides in your site stylesheet or in this style block.
We recommend moving this block and the preceding CSS link to the HEAD of your HTML file. */
    </style>

    Hi Jesse,

After looking at the code, this would require you to move to WordPress.org.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

  • Unknown's avatar

No problem. Is there a cost associated to moving to WordPress.org other than going through BlueHost or a third party hosting site? From what I can tell it looks like it is from $3.95 and up per month to host.

  • Unknown's avatar

There would be no cost in actually transferring your site, but you would have to pay for hosting through hosts like BlueHost. I’m not quite sure how their pricing scale works. It would be best to speak with their support team if you have any questions about their prices.

Just for reference, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it is right for you:
