how can I add contributors to my blog

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

    Hi there,
You can have either a public or a private blog and there is no limitation on the total number of contributors to any blog. If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author. If you want users to receive updates each time you publish new content you can invite them to be a follower/viewer.

    See here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

The person will have to register a username account but does not need to register a blog. That requirement is because the software has to be able to differentiate between hackers and official users and allow access only to those with username accounts and official roles on the blog.

They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.

Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.

I have the same issue. I will see if this will work.

  • Unknown's avatar

    It’s not working.

I had the user I invited to log-in to his WP account, then go back to his email and accept the invitation but it all went back to the login screen.

    :(

    Hello there!

I have added the user, abeng5, to your site as a Contributor. If you wish to change the role of the user, please do so here:

    For more about user roles:

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Thanks for grabbing that username for me, timethief, you save us all a step. You’re the best :)

    Hi

I think there has been an error.

abeng5 should be added as a user to abengsinco.wordpress.com

The other WP site is not mine and abeng5 should not be part of it.

I am sorry if I confused this thread. I have looked around for a similar issue as mine and saw that jenihavill2014 and I are having the same issue so I just added my concern here instead of creating another thread.

Can you kindly redo the process?

    Thank you.

    Hello there!

Thanks for following up. Sorry about the confusion. That’s why it tends to be best to start your own thread, but it’s no problem at all! I’ve added abeng5 to abengsinco.wordpress.com.

You can take a look at your users here:
    https://abengsinco.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php

I’ve added him as a Contributor. You’re welcome to change the role of this user, if you’d like.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

    @thatrobyn
Thanks for the assist here. :)

    Right back at you!

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you so much to both of you! The user has been added successfully. You guys are the best!

But I wonder, how can we prevent this in the future from happening? I don’t think contacting you guys for adding a user is optimal.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there!

It’s definitely not optimal. It really shouldn’t happen again, honestly. People add users all the time to their sites…I’m not sure where the glitch happened in this situation, but please let me know if it happens ever again. Just let me know the process you followed, and I can see where along the way things went south.

Thanks for your patience! All the best to you :)

Generally in my experience it happens because the new user is checking the wrong email.

I will let you know if I encounter any issues again and document the process.

But to inform you of what happened here:

The user I invited is not yet a WP user. So I asked him to create a WP account (but not a blog). There is an option for that so we followed that option. Then I added him as a user to my website. When he clicks on the ACCEPT INVITATION in the email, it brings him to the WP homepage where he has to login. We do it using his WP username and password.

Then when he goes to his dashboard it says – YOU HAVE NO SITES (or something to that effect). Eventually, we had to create another WP blog for him. Then I re-sent the invitation and this time, when he clicks on the ACCEPT INVITATION it goes again to the WP login page. Even if he is already logged in.

In his own dashboard, my website is not showing up even though I can see in my dashboard that there is a pending invitation for him.

Thank you again and I hope I don’t encounter the same issue in the future as it can get frustrating.

    Hello there!

Out of curiosity, did you add him by email or by user name after he created his account? I recommend the latter, generally.

Eventually, we had to create another WP blog for him.

Just an FYI, so it doesn’t waste your time, if issues arise during the invitation process, you do not have to create a new blog. It won’t impact the issue, and might just confuse your new user if he/she has no intention of using the new site.

In his own dashboard, my website is not showing up even though I can see in my dashboard that there is a pending invitation for him.

If an invitation is still pending, it won’t display in his Dashboard. That is correct. However, what isn’t correct…is that he doesn’t have access to your site after he accepts your invitation. This shouldn’t have occurred.

I hope I don’t encounter the same issue in the future as it can get frustrating.

I agree. I don’t want you to have to go through it either! It’s a pain. So, please do be in touch if there are any issues. We’ll take care of them asap if they arise.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Out of curiosity, did you add him by email or by user name after he created his account?

First, I added him by email so he can have a link where he will create his username. This was successful and he was able to create one. Since after that process I cannot see him as a member of my blog, I added him again using his username. This time I saw that he had a pending invite.

Again, thanks for all your help. You are indeed a Happiness Engineer!

    Aw, it was my pleasure.

Thanks for describing your process. It will help me if this issue arises in the future!
