How can i add spaces to a post?`

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, i’ve been trying to add spaces to my post to no avail! I keep going to edit and adding the spaces but then when i go back to check, the post is not spaced the way i want it to be!!!

    HELP!!!

You mean line breaks? Switch to HTML view and add this
    <p>&nbsp;</p>

i’ve been using the method wpvstp mentions – it does work – but weirdly, whenever I go back to manage the post (to clean up spelling or something) the blank space code is gone (in HTML view). If I save from this point, all the spaces I added are gone. I have to go in and redo them all every time. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t want to go back into a post because I’m afraid it’ll erase the formatting.

This may sound too primitive for you guys, but I change the font color to white and then type a period(.) or a dash(-), hit return, and then change the font color back to normal.

Actually rchsbowman that sounds like a good idea… If I wanted to add several rows, could I hit return a bunch of times and then put the period, or do I have to add one row with a period to each space I want to appear?

I would image that you would have to leave at least one character in each row. But that would be easy. Change the font color at the beginning and then back when you are through inserting “blank” lines.

The code wpvstp suggests doesn’t work anymore. These do:
    <p align="none"> </p>
    <p align="none">&nbsp;</p>
I wouldn’t recommend rchsbowman’s makeshift method, because some of us view webpages with the colors we prefer instead of their original ones.

The code still works…at least on my blog, maybe it’s browser- and/or theme-dependent?

It IS theme-dependent, I seem to vaguely recall. Some people have to use divs, it’s crazy. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about coding to see any patterns; as far as I can see, it’s just arbitrary.

Further to all that, today mine worked just by hitting return twice in visual mode. First time that’s happened.

    I’ve tempted fate now, haven’t I?
