How can I add Subscribe/Like/Follow buttons to my Fruit Shake theme blog?
-
Hi, I’m looking for help adding various subscribe/follow/like buttons to my blog http://www.thestickyfingersbrigade.com. I have the Fruit Shake theme and am looking to add uniform square icons all together in one widget on my side bar (like on this blog http://www.lisamorguess.com/) instead of the default widgets. I’m a total tech-newb, as you probably can see. Any help would be fab. TIA.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
There are a few different ways of doing it, but this one is the simplest (requiring no code!)
- Create an account on http://about.me
- Then visit your new about.me and “add apps” for all of the services you’d like to have an icon for on your site
- Once that’s done, head back to the Appearance->Widget page and add the “about.me” widget.
- To have it only show the app icons, you’ll want it set like this: https://cloudup.com/cEtr4YGKxXG
Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else!

Hi!
Thanks so much, kraftbj. I tried it out and, while I can get some of the icons I want – others aren’t listed. Is it possible to get icon buttons for the links as well? (Pinterest, for example, isn’t listed in the apps so I added the link on the about.me page but it wont sinc up to my blog when I plug in the widget) The facebook for a fan page comes up as a link instead of an app, too, and doesn’t seem to want to sinc. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again!

Howdy again,
Likely not. There are limitations with the about.me method (e.g. not all services are provided in a pretty way).
We’re looking at ways to improve this without needing a third-party service, but I don’t have a timeline for when anything along that line would be available.
We could add the links manually, though it would require a bit of coding that I’m happy to help with. Which services would you like links to?

Hi again,
Foo. Had a feeling it wouldn’t be easy. Lol. I was interested in having the following link icons in a nice uniform row;
Facebook
Twitter
Stumbled upon
Linked in
Pinterest
and Blog Feed SubscribeIf this is something you could help with, and isn’t too much trouble, that would be amazing. If not – it’s no biggie. I can work with what I have already.
Thanks again!

Let’s try this…
Edit this code to include the full URLs for each service’s profile page, then paste it into a new Text Widget (be sure that the “Automatically add paragraphs” is NOT checked):
<a href="HTTP://INSERT-FACEBOOK-LINK-HERE"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/facebook.png" width="32" height="32"></a> <a href="HTTP://INSERT-TWITTER-LINK-HERE"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/twitter.png" width="32" height="32"></a> <a href="HTTP://INSERT-STUMBLEDUPON-LINK-HERE"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/stumbleupon.png" width="32" height="32"></a> <a href="HTTP://INSERT-LINKEDIN-LINK-HERE"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/linkedin.png" width="32" height="32"></a> <a href="HTTP://INSERT-PINTEREST-LINK-HERE"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/pinterest.png" width="32" height="32"></a> <a href="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.com/feed/"><img src="http://thestickyfingersbrigade.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/rss.png" width="32" height="32"></a>I’ve found and uploaded icons for each into your Media Library already.

You are so totally awesome! The links work great. I removed the Linkedin because it’s still super bare bones but have saved the code for future reference.
Thanks so much for all your help. You’ve made my night!

One more quick question…. is there an icon for following the blog through WP (I currently have it as a separate button) or is that the same as the blog feed subscription?

Howdy,
At this time, there isn’t a link we can add to follow like the others, sadly. It would be a great addition; I’ll bring it up with the team.
Cheers!
