How can I avoid multiple email notices of the same posting?
-
When I make a new post, I cannot get the website to send out only one email to those in my list. It always sends at least one change notice as well as the notice of the new posting, even though I am careful to only publish once. I am using a list of emails in the Additional Email Addresses box. (I do not have the box checked that says “Email changes to drafts, not just published items.”) How can I avoid this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You have the “Send an email when a post or page changes.” setting enabled. Is that something you require (ignoring the current issue)? If you do not, I would expect that should fix the issue.

Yes, I do want to send an email when a new post is added. But I only want to send one email. I would think that an email would be sent each time I published or updated. But instead it seems that multiple emails are sent for just one publish — at least two emails are sent when I create and publish a new post, even though I only click publish once.

Do you want to send an email when a new post is added AND also when an old post is changed? That is what the “Send an email when a post or page changes.” toggle is for. If you turn it off, people are only emailed when a new post is published. I am suspicious that having it turned on is what is causing your double emails for some reason. At the very least I would like to test it out by having you turn it off and publishing a new post to see what happens.

You have solved my problem. I will make a suggestion:
The page is entitled “Email Post Changes”
I assume that whether any emails go out at all is determined from this page, by checking Users or adding other email addresses.
The first item on this page is “Enable” with a box after it.
This suggests that, in order to enable emails of posts, one should check this box.
But as I now understand it, this is not the case, and the box should only be checked if one wants to send an email every time a post is changed after its initial publication.
You could begin this page with a note that “If you check any Users or add any email addresses below, email notice of an initial publication will be send to those designated.
Then, rather than “Enable”, the box could be labeled “Email changes to posts after initial publication.” -
I am glad that things are sorted out for your specific situation and I’ll look into seeing how we can make that setting more clear.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
