How can I block a spammy traffic bot?

Over the past two days, my blog has had a suspicious and inexplicably huge increase in traffic, from 200 or less visitors a day to more than 8,000 today and more than 15,000 yesterday. Each visit is only to the home page and they are from all over the world.

I’ve been told by other bloggers that this could be caused by a traffic bot, and I think I’ve identified (with the help of Google) the culprits. I don’t want this traffic, it skews my statistics and is not genuine. But what I can’t find on WordPress is the way to filter or block those referrers that I think are responsible. Can you please help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t believe you can block them from accessing your site if they’re not leaving comments.

If they’re leaving comments, you can either send them to moderation or have them deleting by going into your Admin Panel. Scroll down into settings >> discussion

In there you can add the IP address of the culprit and it will note them as spam.

Thanks, but they are not leaving comments (Akismet does a good job of catching the spam comments) – it is just that there are so many views (in relation to my number of followers) that it is really skewing my legitimate view stats. None of them are ever going off the home page. I really hope someone can help me solve this.

I am also having problems from known traffic bot sites like ranking analytics and buttons for websites. It is very irritating to say the least knowing these are not real views and not being able to decipher them from legitimate stats. I really hope someone can help come up with a solution within wordpress.com

Marking spam referrers as spam referrers simply removes the reporting from your stats. It does not block them. See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spam-referrer-reporting?replies=3
