how can I change automatic pings

Hi. I’m new to wordpress. If I want to have automatic pings to different sites, how do I do that? I read about the ping-o-matic and Technorati but I’m Swedish and want to ping certain Swedish sites. I just can’t find out how and where. I thought I had the answer at Technoratis page http://www.technorati.com/developers/ping/wordpress.html
but I don’t have that “update services” thing under “write”.
    Any ideas?

WordPress automatically pings Technorati, because they use Pingomatic for all our blogs. You do need to claim your blog on Technorati for it to work though.

You might also want to look at another pinging service, as sometimes things go wrong and it’s good to have a backup. I use Pingoat.com, and just ping them manually after I make a post.

But if I use Pingoat I can’t choose which sites to ping can I? I was looking for a feature like exists on http://www.blogg.se where you can choose different sites to ping (for each category). This feature was under “categories”.
I found some info on the net about wordpress where it says there should be an “update services” option under OPTIONS -> WRITE but I can’t find it. Why? It seemed to me this would be the place to do such changes.

Yes, you can choose exactly which ones to ping under Pingoat. At least, you can choose from those listed, and they do have a lot of European ones.

I think the info you heard about WordPress applies to WordPress.org, not WordPress.com; they are running different software there and can install their own widgets and plug-ins.

    Oh ok.
Maybe this is a silly quesion but what is the difference between the .org and .com? Is wordpress.org where you download wordpress software to your computer and wordpress.com where you get a free blog online?

At the head of the forum are two pink sticky posts. One is titled “please read me first before posting”. It explains the differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org services. The two run on different software and wordpress.org is where you want to be if you wish to self host a free blog template or hire a web hosting service. November, yes. The *.org is the download site and the *.com is the free hosted version.

I and others have actually asked technorati to change the page that you mention but they have failed to do so. And it’s very ironic that last bit on their page asking for feedback.
