How can I change my current blog address/URL?

Hello!
I would like to change my blog address from http://www.pen2needle.wordpress.com to http://www.diyalogues.wordpress.com. Can I do this and still keep all the content and followers from my previous site? I believe I read something about a Site Redirect. Is this necessary? I would also like to update the email address associated with the blog too. Can you tell me what would be the implication of such a move and how I can achieve it? Thank you!

If you would like to change your WordPress.com site’s URL, there are options and instructions for doing so here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Please bear in mind that once changed, that site’s original WordPress.com URL will become permanently unavailable for future use by you or any other user. If you feel that you might need that URL again in the future, you might consider starting a new site with your preferred name rather than changing the name of your existing site.

Thank you for the response. I did read and re-read that page before I posted here but some things weren’t clear to me.
My primary purpose for doing this is because I feel the new name would be a better fit for me and my content. That being said I don’t want to have to start from scratch and lose all the work I have put into my blog over the past year.
1) If I were to follow the steps in the link you posted, would all my posts, followers, likes and comments remain unchanged?
2) I would like to change my email address and and username as well. Will my subscribers have to Follow again or will this change have no impact on them?
3) If I understand correctly, were I to change my username and email, I will have to follow all the blogs I am currently following with my new email ID?
4) I did not understand the part about the Sire Redirect Upgrade. What would happen if I didn’t install the Site Redirect?
5) Any comments/posts I have made elsewhere on the blogosphere as pen2needle will now lead to a broken link. Correct?
6) How is the link you provided different from this one:

There is no mention at this link of a Site Redirect which has me confused. Does that mean the Site Redirect is unnecessary?
7) And lastly I had created a WP site with my new username. At the time it seemed like a good idea because I didn’t want anyone else to snap up the name I had in mind. Yes.

It will have no impact.

If you change them, no. If you create a completely new user account, yes.

Without the site redirect upgrade, traffic to your old site URL will not be forwarded to your new site URL. So anyone who has bookmarked your old URL and does not update that bookmark, will not go to your new site.

Correct, unless you set up Site Redirect.

I’m unsure what you are asking here. Are you saying that you made a whole new WordPress.com user account and with that new account made a new site using the URL that you want to change your old site URL to?

As for #7, I’m not sure if it’s a new account. I was logged into my current account (pen2needle) and used the Switch Site -> Add New WordPress option.
Will this pose a problem?No, it’s definitely not a problem. You’ve just created a new site which is absolutely fine. You can have as many sites as you like associated with your WordPress.com account.

Thank you! So I can use the site I have created as my new blog address if I am changing my current URL?
Also, once I’ve changed my current blog address to the new one, what will visitors to the old site see? Will the content I have created still be available there?

You can select which site is your Primary Site in the Account Settings:
https://wordpress.com/me/account
Your old site will still be accessible. Depending on how you want things to work you could publish a post to the old site letting users know where your new site is. You can also set up a redirect from the old site to the new one. It’s up to you.

I’m not sure if I made myself clear Rachel. What I’d like to do is essentially migrate all my content (posts, likes, comments, followers and people I am following) from Pen2Needle (my current site) to Diyalogues (a new site I have already created under the same WordPress account).
If I understand correctly, the only way to do this is to change my current blog address. This way all my content is retained in the old one as well as copied into the new site. Ideally before doing this, I should put up one last post on my current site directing any future visitors to the new one. Once the change in blog address has been implemented, I will no longer have access to my old site but will visitors there still be able to view my past content?
And on the new site, can I go back to old posts and make updates such as the watermark on photos, links to other articles on the blog, etc?

Ah ok. That does make sense!
Since you’ve already created the new site you’ll need to export the content on the original site by following the instructions here:
You’ll get an xml file of your site’s content which you’ll upload to the new site by following the instructions here:
Since you’ve already created the new site you can’t change the address of the old site to the new one because the new one already exists. This means you’ll have two sites but you can either redirect the old one to the new site or put a page on the old site directing users to the new one.

Yep! Your original site will stay exactly the same and you can continue to post to it.

When you import the xml file to the new site there’s an option to import Media at the same time. It won’t remove the Media Library from the old site. All that happens is the data is copied which means you’ll have two sites with all the same data.
3) Will any internal links to past posts still work or will I have to manually update those?
The links will be updated to the new site URL on the new site. But on the old site they’ll still be the same.

Hello again…
I’ve complete the import of all my content onto the new site. Unfortunately none of the Likes/Views history got transferred to the new site. Is there any way to remedy this? Thankfully it seems like the comments have made it through okay :)
Also, can you please help me with migrating the followers now?

Sure! I can do the transfer now for you. Can you give me the site addresses for the original site and the new site. Likes will not be transferred because these are specific for the site address. But I can merge the stats for you. I’ll also have a look at the mobile issue once you’ve confirmed the site address.
