How can I change my security settings with a backup code (not google auth code)?

I needed to reset my iPhone, and neglected to create a new Google authenticator for my wordpress account. I can access my account to post new content using a backup code, but when I try to access the settings menu, I get the message:
“For security reasons, you can only edit user settings while logged in with a Two Step Authentication code.
Please logout, then log back in with your Master Password and authentication code to continue.”

I tried once more with the next Backup Code, but the same message appears. I cannot even disable two-factor auth, and then try to create a new google authenticator for my phone.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Andy

This is the same problem I have been having and I haven’t been able to find a solution either

Very strange. I tried again by logging out and closing the browser, then entered the next backup code. This time I was permitted to access the settings, turn off my 2 step auth, (this required the next code on the list) and then I was able to set up a new Google Auth.

    So, I’m back in.
    Thanks
