How can I change my site address?
-
I just signed up and tried to start my first blog. When registering I typed “life-in-leopard” as my blog url, but it created “lifeinleoparddotcom” instead. How can I change it to “life-in-leopard”? What did I do wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@mrsfoufou
Please ignore what tiznit24sport posted because your lifeinleoparddotcom creation points to different issue. It points to a failed domain mapping issue. Please answer my question: Are you referring to this blog?
http://lifeinleopard.wordpress.com/ Did you register that blog or not? -
No I did not. However, when I was registering “life-in-leopard” showed up as not being used. How can I change it to that?

If you did not register this username account https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/lifeinleopard on
August 6, 2013 (7 months ago) and this blog http://lifeinleopard.wordpress.com/ then both have been registered by someone else and you cannot register the blog.If you did register that username account last summer and blog then you can recover the account and access the blog. If you think that you did then log out of wordpress.com and clear your browser cache and cookies. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard.
Clicking this link should display all your blogs registered under the same username, including the hidden ones: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs&show=hidden
If you do not see the blog here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/ then
follow this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibilityIf you have lost your log-in information you can visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
and if required click the “Need More Help” link and complete the form for account recovery. https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery -

There is no expiration date on blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting, then providing the are agreeable there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.
If you are not successful, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

if I register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade, what does that involve? Does that mean people will not see lifeinleoparddotcom.wordpress.com and instead they will see whatever new domain I use?

Yes! All that changes is the URL.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
All About Domains http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
As you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here if you already own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Also, how do I contact the owner of the unused blog via contact form?
You can’t contact them via a contact form if there isn’t one on the site. On the site in question there isn’t a contact form. All you can do is use the comment box if comments are open and comments are open here http://lifeinleopard.wordpress.com/about/

The “get started” screen on http://www.worldpress.com indicates that “life-in-leopard” is a valid domain that is not currently being used. However, when I go to add it as my new domain, it tells me that it is not a valid name (I’m assuming it is because of the dashes.) Why does it say valid in the start screen but not when I go to use that address of the domain? Sorry for asking so many questions! I’m just trying to get my name set!
