How Can I Change My Username Back

  I messed up. I changed my username thinking I would be able to change it back. It’s late and I didn’t read the warnings carefully about not being able to change my username back.

  Is there anything I can do to get my old username back? Anyone I can contact to release my old username for use again?

  If you selected the “discard current address option” then no, it’s gone forever. WordPress never recycles blog URLs

  Thank you for the response tandava108.

  I was, however, speaking about my username (mcfaddenb) and not a URL. I realize they state that once you change your username you cannot change it back but I had glanced over this fact when it was late last night.

  So, the question was, is there anyone I can contact who would have the authority to release my previous username for use again?

  (That too is impossible as the blog URL is used for a user’s dashboard.

  I’ll agree that it is impossible for me to do on my own but what I am still getting at is that there must be someone at WordPress.com who manages the their servers that can release the username.

  (Also, I don’t follow your comment saying the blog URL is used for a user’s dashboard. The blog URL is not necessarily used for a user’s dashboard. For example, I don’t have any blogs right now.)

  From this WordPress.com Support doc:

  Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use.

  Sorry for no better news.

  Hah, yeah I know I answered my own question in that regards @justjennifer.

  I guess I was just hoping I would somehow be able to talk to an administrator at WordPress. This forum is the only way I have found to contact anyone though.

  And both tandava and I are experienced forum volunteers who know that even if staff were to reply here, the answer would be what is written in the support doc I linked to in my reply above.

  The number of people who come through asking to recover a deleted site or username are many, but so far deleted stays deleted.

  Again, sorry for no better news.
