Hi there!
There’s no way to change the link structure of your site here at WordPress.com. If this is something you find necessary for your site, you may want to consider moving to a self-hosted WordPress.org site. Here are some differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

ALL that I want to do is eliminate the date that is forced onto the url. My posts are not “timely newscasts” with any need for a reference date but they are simply articles about things that do not work smoothly or effectively. Essentially, the wagon rolls on Square Wheels while the cargo of that wagon are ROUND ones.
The paradox is that the demanded date permalink format is REQUIRED to simply post a blog in WordPress.com? Can I hear a thump thump?

I’m sorry you’re not happy with the chosen link structure here at WordPress.com. Because WordPress.com is a blogging platform, the date is usually a relevant piece of information. I understand that is not the case for your site, however we can’t allow individual users to make changes to their link structure since this is a shared platform.
Like I mentioned, you can have full control over your link structure if you run a self-hosted WordPress.org site.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else!
