How can I change the description of my site that comes up in a Google search?
-
I recently started a WordPress.com site for my business (www.blueskyacademic.net). When one does a Google search for the site (e.g., search: Bluesky Academic Services), the description that comes up for the site on the Google page is the very first post I made when I was just starting to learn WordPress and the instructions were ‘for your first post just write anything to try it out.’ That post has nothing to do with my business (it’s the lyrics of a Beatles song!), but it remains there as the site description from a Google search. Especially if the search is done on an iPhone. How can I replace this description with a new one that is appropriate?

Hey there!
Google generally can take 4-6 weeks to update content found on your site, such as the description you mentioned.
However, to encourage Google to clear its cache of your old data, and crawl the new content, you can use Google tools:

Also, in order to encourage Google and other search engines to index your site more often, you can use these suggestions for search engine optimization:

My pleasure! Your site will be indexed correctly in time. I can relate to the eagerness for this to happen sooner rather than later.
Just let us know if you have questions in the future!
