How can I change the picture in the browser tab?

  • Unknown's avatar

Next to my blog’s name in the browser’s tab is a picture, and I’d like to change it. Currently it’s the picture of me that’s on my ‘About’ page. I have no idea how it came to be in the browser tab.

I found discussions about favicons but they were very involved (I could not make sense of the instructions) and seemed to be from people seeking to create a picture in the tab, not change the one they’ve got.

Hunting around my settings, I found that my gravatar was the same picture of me that appears in the tab. So I just now changed my gravatar to a cartoon-style letter M, thinking that might solve the problem. But I am still seeing that photo of me in the tabs.

Could you please help me figure out a way to change it? If possible, I’d like to use that cartoon M, but I don’t mind if it’s the WordPress logo. To me it just looks silly to have that photo on a tab.

    Thanks.

  • Hi melissascookbook!

I believe what you’re wanting to change is the “Blavatar”, which is the avatar of your blog, and shows up in a browser’s address bar and on browser tabs. I’m seeing the same “M” image in my browser tab as your Gravatar, so it appears to be working correctly now. You might have to close your browser and clear your cache for it to take effect on your computer.

If you haven’t already read it and still need help, the support article below has a pretty straightforward description of Blavatars and how to change them, and if you have additional questions just let me know!

Thank you, Kristin! I appreciate your help. I see it has now changed to the “M” image across all my pages.
