How can I change the size of the picture in my posts?

  I’ve just set up a new blog, with a different e-mail address. The original one just shows a small thumbnail picture in the top left hand corner of each post, which is what I want, but every theme I try for the new one shows an enormous picture taking up the whole screen, and I just want a thumbnail. Is anyone able to tell me how to do this? Thanks.
