How can I change width of main content column?

I would like to widen the “main content column.” Is that what you call the space that contains post and sidebar? Can anyone tell me how to do it? I have tried editing codes that refer to “width” in the stylesheet but just get some funny looking stuff when I preview it. I am only copying the code I want to change into the editor.
My purpose is to be able to post video in wide format instead of only 4:3 aspect ratio. Thanks.

Hi, I am trying to change the width of the main column in the layout also, using Lifestyle theme. I have narrowed the right hand sidebar no problems, now there is a large gap between the main content and the sidebar.
I presumed that everywhere the css said 600 or 610, I would just change to 680 and 690 respectively, but this hasn’t changed anything.
Which sections of the stylesheet should be changed, and what is that section called?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

We don’t have a “lifestyle” theme here so my only conclusion is that your blog is self-hosted and you need to inquire about those over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ or better yet, contact the theme designer or see if they have a forum for support.

I didn’t mean to start the second thread, I thought my first one didn’t take. So sorry to have offended you with my question timethief. I was under the impression I might find people here willing to help. If it’s a requirement that you already be well versed in CSS editing then why does this forum exist?

I’m not in the least offended but you sure sound as if you are and that’s too bad. I truly regret that you feel that way. :(
This peer support forum exists because we wordpress.com users are able to field enough volunteers to answer technical support questions. We are NOT expected to teach anyone how to code ever.
There is no staff support for teaching CSS editing. Only 2 volunteers choose to teach CSS, and one is going to be making a big move in just a few days, so he won’t be as available as he was before.
I’m glad you have already received a response from TSP in the other thread. That means you now comprehend what a huge photoshop undertaking the editing of the Kubrick theme involves. You can find some tips at http://csswiz.wordpress.com and I believe Devblog does do some freelancing if you want to hire someone. I don’t know what his rate is, but whatever he asks, he’s worth it.
