How can I close comments on media files?
-
I am having a serious problem with spammers getting through the wordpress.com spam block software and posting multiple times a day on old photo files on my blog. I have closed comments on articles older than 14 days but this does not seem to apply to my photos. PLEASE make it possible to do this for photos/media files! I am using wordpress.com, NOT wordpress.org. HELP!

Hello there, Micha!
You can turn off the comments for your media files by opening them up in the Media Editor and changing the settings.
For instance:
https://brightideandbushytailed.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=894&action=editScroll down until you see the Discussion module and turn off your Comments/Pingbacks. Then, save your changes.
That will do the trick!
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Ok, but I have thousands of media files. Why can’t I turn off comments for all of them at once? Or why doesn’t the “close comments on articles older than 14 days” option also apply to media files? I can’t manually update each photo…it will take days and the spammers are much faster than I am!

Micha,
Going forward, you will have to adjust those media comment settings manually. However, one of our developers adjusted your current media so the comments are all disabled.
I hope this helps! Take care.
