Go to Design -> Widgets and add the “Categories” widget to your sidebar. Click “Edit” on the widget once it has been added. Select the option that reads, “Show as dropdown.”
-
Already done that. Still not showing. Please also tell me as i am unable to see my tagline.
-
The categories widget is not showing because you do not have any published posts. Please go to Write -> Post, create a new post, and assign it to a category.
Your current theme does not display the tagline. You can, alternatively, place your tagline into a Text Widget, and add it to your sidebar.

I have pages on my blog http://www.apsplacements.wordpress.com. I always post my data on the pages. How can i submit a post (so that i can add categories) on my pages? Please tell me.
-
You cannot.
Posts and pages are different, and pages cannot be categorized. Only posts can. You may wish to reconsider organizing your blog the way you have. As well, a blog consisting primarily of pages will not have nearly the standing in the eyes of search engines that a blog consisting primarily of posts would.
