How can I create a link in a post to a page I have created?

In articles i am posting on my blog, i would like to be able to link to documents I have electronic versions of. I have figured out how to create a “page” upon which I place the docment. But when i create a link to the page, it doesn’t open up when readers click on it.
Is there some better way of creating a platform for electronic documents that i have and want to link to.

If you want to embed the document itself into a post, then you will have to use a third party application like Scribd or Google Docs.
