How can I decrease whitespace overall?

Hi all. I was wondering how I can reduce the white space overall? All my information seems to be in the center and I was wondering if there’s a way to expand the width so more space is covered.

Hi there,
I see that you are using the Alves theme on your site, and in this case the theme does have the ability to display some images at full width (as wide as your computer monitor can display) as you can see here: https://alvesdemo.wordpress.com/
However, if you are using a standard paragraph block the default margins of the theme are narrower, as you can see here: https://alvesdemo.wordpress.com/donate/
That is the same width as the pages on your site, and that is kind of “baked in” to the theme source code. You could add sections of content that are wider (similar to the demo homepage) by using the the “Cover Image Block” which as a full width option.
The other option is to find a theme that has a wider presentation style and switch to it. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi there,
Our theme showcase doesn’t have a filter based on width of the content area, so it’s not really possible to make a suggestion in that regard.
Additionally, most themes are created with more or less the same width of content area. The human eye can only comfortably read up to a certain number of characters in a line of text. Any wider, and your eyes tire more quickly, and it also becomes much easier to lose your place while moving from the end of one line, to the start of another.
This is one of the things designers keep in mind when designing websites, which is why most websites, and most WordPress themes, limit the width of text content on the site to somewhere between 45-75 characters per line, and why the Full Width and Wide Width alignment options aren’t present for paragraph and other text-only blocks in the editor.
In other words, the whitespace is there for a reason :)
So I don’t believe switching themes will be much help to you – at most another theme might fall on the outside of the 45-75 range, but you’re unlikely to find one that displays text at full-width. I don’t know of any of the themes we offer here on WordPress.com that does that.
If you only want to have small sections of text wider, I recommend using the Cover block mentioned above.
Otherwise you can also use custom CSS to make the content area for your entire site wider. This code should do the trick:
/* Make content area wider */ .entry-content > :not(.alignwide):not(.alignfull):not(.alignleft):not(.alignright):not(.wp-block-separator):not(.wp-block-button):not(.entry-attachment) { max-width: 80%; }You can play with the percentage value until it looks the way you want.
Keep in mind that this can affect the readability of text on your site, though, and I wouldn’t recommend this if you have a lot of text-heavy content on your site.
